MARAISBURG - 4 ROBBERY SUSPECTS CAUGHT IN THE ACT & ARRESTED

Police have arrested four suspects following a botched robbery in Maraisburg in Johannesburg. Another one was shot and wounded.

They all face charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

For five hours - Maraisburg's Albertina Sisulu Road was cordoned off. The suspects were nabbed and caught in the act after an attempted robbery.

"We were sleeping in the room, they woke me up from there, and they started asking where I keep money and cigarettes. I told them I don't have money here, “ says shop keeper Mahmud Sabuz.

The ordeal did not end there. "He put me down on the floor, and then he tied my hands, after that they came back and asked me where the exit door is.”

The suspects were, however, accosted by police as they tried to flee.

"The police just came to buy drinks only to find that there were suspects inside, when the police came, others went into the toilets, and the other one came towards the police and started to shoot, that is when the police shot him, now he has been taken to hospital," says South African Police Service Spokesperson Sergeant Mpho More.

Investigations are still underway. Police believe there could be more suspects on the run.
