The South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau and Crime Intelligence have shut down a covert gold and platinum lab in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.Authorities made the bust worth about R5 million on Wednesday night while acting on a tip-off.
Hawks spokesperson captain Ndivhuwo Mulamo says when they arrived on the scene, gold and platinum were being processed.
“Unprocessed gold, gold concentrated metal, gold nuggets, unprocessed platinum and refined platinum, at an estimated value of R5 million, were seized.”
A 31-year-old man has been arrested for illegal manufacturing of precious metal.
